2020 Clay Shoot!

It’s that time of year again!

The Rays and our Clay Shoot Committee have been hard at work prepping and planning for our annual Sporting Clays Shoot Fundraiser!

We have always miraculously had good weather during this event and this year was no different. After a record downpour on Thursday, the skies cleared and the course dried and we were ready to go Friday morning!

The Clay Shoot is our main fundraiser and brings in the bulk of the funding that makes Pockets possible each year. We are always lucky to have a wonderful and diverse group of shooters participate and each year gets better and better!

Several of our Rays were able to join us in Savannah at Forest City Gun Club, the oldest gun club in the south, for the event! They had a great time serving lunch, mingling with the participants and checking out the course, handing our waters and snacks from their golf carts!

One of the sweetest moments of the day was the announcement of the top scoring teams and top shooters. The top male shooter from this year was our very own Michael Perry. A local fishing charter captain and sharp shooter. Michael is very involved in our local community and despite his tall stature has a heart of gold, earning him the nickname, Papa Bear. Michael was badly injured on a hunting trip when the tree stand he was in collapsed towards the end of 2019 and has made miraculous progress towards recovery since then. He shot a perfect 100 which was such a sweet testament to his strength and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when he was named top shooter.

The shoot was a great success and we are so thankful to everyone who donated, participated and the many helping hands that brought the day to fruition!
