Strumming for Sunshine
Community relationships mean everything to us at Pockets and are truly the cornerstone of what we do; providing opportunities for connection for the Rays. We have been extremely lucky to be embraced by some amazing people and groups within our community, and as of late that has blossomed into some very creative and exciting opportunities.
The SERG Restaurant Group is one such community partner and relationship that we are incredibly grateful for. Last year they hosted a new event, Hogtoberfest, a fun and festive hog cook-off, and were generous enough to name PFS the beneficiary. We loved participating in the event and were thrilled to find out they planned to repeat it annually. As planning for this years festival got under way, we were approached by Chris Butler, manager of Skull Creek Boathouse, one of the restaurants hosting Hogtoberfest. Chris was familiar with the Rays and also happens to have the incredibly cool hobby of making guitars in his free time. His idea was to work with the Rays to create a fully functional guitar that was also a one of a kind work of art, and to auction it off at the event.
Our first thought was, absolutely! Our second thought was, how in the world do we paint a guitar? :)
But as with every new task we tackle, we figure it out as we go along and when you come at it with heart, as the Rays always do, the end result seems to work itself out.
There was a little trial and error as we went along, but we were all truly blown away by how wonderfully this project turned out! This guitar was funky and cool and beautiful!
The event itself was again, amazing, and the Rays loved every second of being a part. The guitar raffle was extremely successful and we are so grateful to Chris and the SERG group for recognizing the value of providing meaningful opportunities for our fabulous adults.
The community is definitely sunnier with friends like these!
